Snow, "Apple-Boy", and a FREE Christmas Download!

Season's Greetings Friends,

I hope you are all enjoying this bit of winter leading up to Christmas as much as I am here in Nashville. I purchased my very first real Christmas tree this week, which stands about three and a half feet tall, and looks very much like the pathetic little bare tree in A Charlie Brown Christmas. I call it "The Little Christmas Tree That Could". I also went sledding for the first time with one of my housemates after a Nashville snow storm a few days ago. That's right, two grown men going snow sledding down their icy street like little kids. You got a problem with that?

This time of year always makes me a little more aware of the things I am thankful for. For instance, I am thankful for "Apple-Boy" who sat next to me on my recent flight back from London. When I first sat down next to him while we were waiting to leave the runway, he was playing around on his new iPhone 4, and listening to his iPod Shuffle. After we had taken off, and the captain gave us the go ahead to use our FAA Approved Electronic Devices, he pulls out his fancy new iPad. By this point I'm already having less-than-kind thoughts about this 19-22 year old frat-boy sitting next to me, but he didn't stop there. He then proceeds to put away his iPad, takes out his shiny new MacBook Pro, and scrolls through a few albums of pictures featuring himself and his fellow frat-boy friends playing "beer pong", and other such frat-boyish games. Did he stop there, you ask? Hardly. He takes out yet another iPod, this one being of the full-sized iPod Touch variety, and proceeds to listen to what is almost certainly his favorite Nickelback or Creed album. It was as if Apple got on my plane, threw up on the seat next to me, and out popped this kid. Priceless.

I am also thankful for you (and not in the same sarcastic manner with which I am thankful for "Apple-Boy"). This year has been full of new and exciting experiences for me, and these experiences would not have been possible without you; the incredible people who have come to my shows, bought my CD's, given me a couch to sleep on, or a meal to eat. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you. I quite literally would not be able to do what I am doing without you, and I LOVE what I do. This life on the road can certainly be a struggle at times, but it is a beautiful struggle. There is not an experience I would trade, and not another job in the world I would rather have. So again, thank you.

In the spirit of giving, and as a very small way of saying thanks, here is a free Christmas download for all of you. Enjoy, and pass it on!

Have a safe and happy holiday season. I can't wait to see you all in 2011!

Merry Christmas,
JD
